SEATING IS LIMITED!  TO RSVP, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

Vocalist Janet Stevenson will present a house concert, "Portrait of Carmen - A Tribute to Carmen McRae" on Sunday, May 19, 2013, from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. The event, at the home of Janet Stevenson and David Swan, is sponsored by the Dunwoody Jazz Society and admission is by a voluntary donation to the jazz society in any amount. Pianist Jez Graham will accompany Janet on piano and Johnny Knapp will talk about  his experiences playing with Carmen McRae..

Carmen McRae's behind-the-beat phrasing, ironic interpretations of song lyrics, and impeccable musicianship made her one of the most influential jazz vocalists of the 20th century. The program will include both music and anecdotes about Carmen's life. Janet will sing a number of rarely-heard songs that were recorded by Carmen on several different albums.

Janet has been singing jazz professionally for over 20 years. Her most recent CD is Believe in Spring. A track from the CD, Just in Time, was chosen as a “Download Of The Day”, on AllAboutJazz.com, where it has been downloaded more than 1600 times to date.. In addition to leading her own jazz quartet, she has performed with many notable jazz musicians, including Cleveland Eaton, who first “discovered” her in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Eaton is the former bassist with the Count Basie Orchestra and the Ramsey Lewis Trio and has also accompanied Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and many other notable jazz vocalists.
